Lady With Unicorn #2 Sight Counted Cross Stitch Pattern

Lady with Unicorn based on medieval Cluny tapestry to cross stitch. Available for instant download, in pdf format, with free shipping and handling.

$ 9.00          Back

This counted cross stitch pattern is adapted from one of a series of six medieval tapestries now housed in National Museum of Medieval Arts in Paris -- Musée du Cluny. The tapestries consist of six pieces, of which the five illustrate the five human senses. They tell the legend of the unicorn, symbolic of holiness and chastity. The unicorn was prominent in tapestries of the Middle Ages, and has been widely used in heraldic devices. The sixth, named "To My Sole Desire" is different from the others.

This one represents the sense of sight or seeing. In a familiar way the unicorn has placed his front legs on the knees of the lady, looking at himself in the mirror which the lady holds up to him, while a lion holding a standard looks on.
